Mereny, kep, waangkiny Mia | Food, water, talking place
As a result of funding from the WA State Government in 2022 Como Secondary College received a new building in the form a multipurpose space adjoining the canteen. This space has many functions. It is used as an exhibition space, for presentations and meetings, as a classroom and an eating area during recess and lunch.
We are delighted the space has now been given an appropriate name – Maali Cafe
Noongar Elder George Hayden the language consultant on the project along with Geoff Baker MLA revealed the signage at a whole school assembly.
The design used artwork from Lalla West who was the Artist in Residence for several years at Como Secondary College. Lalla passed away in 2023 hence we felt this a fitting acknowledgement of her work and connection to our community.
