The transition from Year 10 into 11 is one of the most significant and exciting changes for students in their time at school. In Year 11, students choose their course based on interest, relevance and future ambition, coupled with an understanding of their own level of ability. Previous research outlines to us that at this time, the person that students take the most notice of in making these decisions is their parent. In order to support parents in this important process, a parent information evening has been organised at the school.
This year, we are inviting parents of current Year 10 students to an information evening to help give them insight into the course selection process. We expect this will provide you with the key information required to make appropriate decisions related to choosing the right courses for your child.
The evening has been planned to provide the key information related to:
- West Australian Statement of Student Achievement (WASSA)
- Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE)
- Types of Courses.
These sessions will enable parents to gain the information needed to counsel their student into the most appropriate pathway for year 11 and 12 and beyond. As such, I strongly urge you to attend if possible:
Date: Tuesday 4th June
Time: 6:30pm – 7.30pm
Location: Como Secondary College Staffroom.
It is important that students make appropriate choices now as every course change causes the student to be more at risk.
