The Como Golf Academy, which is dedicated to producing highly skilled golfers, provides a comprehensive academic and golf program. Golf is the central option of study and is successfully incorporated into the students’ mainstream school program throughout their secondary education.
Coaching is delivered by PGA Professionals from Collier Park Golf Course, including the Golf WA State Boys Team coach Tony McSkimming. Golf students have access to all golf facilities including a 27 hole golf course, grass driving range and short game facilities. Please visit their website at Collier Park Golf Course for further information. The Golf Academy also uses state of the art analysis equipment including a Flightscope Launch monitor. The Golf Academy students complete golf specific fitness training within the world class strength and conditioning centre at Curtin University. Students also study the areas of nutrition, sports psychology and on course strategies and tactics.
All students who graduate from the golf program will receive a Certificate II & III in Sport & Recreation, a First Aid Certificate and a Community Golf Coaching award from the Australian Coaching Council. Students have the opportunity to enter the world of golf and pursue a career in one of, but not limited to, the following areas:
- PGA Professional
- Full time Tournament Professional
- Golf Operations
- Enrolment on undergraduate degree programs
- Overseas Golf scholarship opportunities
Como Golf Academy students have the opportunity to attend a Golf Development Camp where they are exposed to different playing conditions and also gain an appreciation of different cultures and backgrounds. Previous destinations include Thailand, South Africa and New Zealand.

The Specialist Golf Program is designed for students who demonstrate developing golf playing ability, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn at all times. Excellent behavior, co-operation and management of all school related studies are required by golf students. The program supports academic success as a priority and, therefore, a position in the Academy is only granted if the student is committed to their academic education.
Students are expected to remain in the golf program until they successfully graduate from Como Secondary College in Year 12. A practical trial and golf club reference will be used to assess playing ability, attitude and behaviour. Applicants are expected to be affiliated with a golf club or junior coaching program.
Specialist Program applications close during Term 2 and trials will follow. The Golf Academy Application form and Expression of Interest form should be forwarded with all supporting documentation to the Enrolments Officer. Exceptional circumstances may allow for late applications and mid-year enrolment opportunities.
For enrolment information and application closing dates please visit the Enrolments page or contact the College on 9365 2000.
