Como Secondary College
The Como Golf Academy provides a comprehensive academic and golf program of the highest quality. Conveniently located adjacent to the Collier Park Golf Course, the Como Golf Academy is dedicated to producing golfers that are highly skilled and who possess a strong academic background.
For students of the Academy, golf is the central option of study and is successfully incorporated into the student’s mainstream school program throughout their secondary education. This combination allows them to subsequently pursue either a rewarding golf career or career in recreational or physical education studies at University level. At the same time the program is flexible enough to accommodate more generic career aspirations. All students who successfully complete the golf program will receive a nationally recognised Certificate II & III in Sport & Recreation as well as a First Aid Certificate and can achieve a Community Golf Coaching accreditation from the Australian Coaching Council.
Furthermore, Como Golf Academy students are trained to develop, and apply their understanding of sports science related concepts to golf performance. This includes strength and conditioning, nutrition and sports psychology, all of which are fundamental components in the success of a modern-day golfer. In addition, golf academy students will improve their course management skills and, therefore, enhance their competitive ability. These skills give them the opportunity to enter the world of golf with the confidence that they can enjoy a successful career within a highly respected sport.
Como Golf Academy students have the opportunity to attend a Golf Development Camp where they are exposed to different course conditions, climates and terrains. Previous destinations include Thailand, South Africa and New Zealand. In conjunction with developing their all-round golf game, through coaching and fitness clinics, they also gain an appreciation of different cultures and backgrounds.
Students of the Academy have full use of the vast resources in the picturesque environment of the Collier Park Golf Course where a special Par-3 Hole has been designated for the use of the Como Academy. Our students also have access to the Collier Park driving range, practice bunkers and practice putting greens.
The Academy members, as students of Como Secondary College, also have access to a fitness centre and specialised Golf Fitness Programme specially designed for the Academy students. The College makes a storage facility available to all golf students for the safe keeping of their equipment.
Como Secondary College engages the extensive expertise of the Collier Park golf professionals, to ensure the highest level of coaching professionalism in the State is available to our Golf Academy students. This comprehensive coaching team attends national and international coaching forums to continually improve the program and provide world’s best practice golf coaching to our students.

Other graduates have successfully embarked on careers in various golf-related industries such as golf management and operations, retail and green-keeping. We currently have players who are actively involved in State teams at junior and senior level.
The Specialist Golf Program is designed for students who demonstrate developing golf playing ability. It is essential students can demonstrate behaviours that reflect a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn new skills and teamwork. Golf demands excellent co-operation and adherence to complex strategies and tactics and therefore appropriate behaviour is expected at all times.
Tours and representative play requires the students to manage their study program effectively. The program supports academic success as a priority and therefore a position in the Academy is only granted if the student is committed to their academic education.
Students are expected to remain in the program until they successfully graduate from Como Secondary College in Year 12. Both the practical trial and golf club reference will be used to assess playing ability and coach-ability. The program is designed to provide additional development and supplement students’ golf outside of the school setting. It is therefore expected that all students are associated with a golf club.
Specialist Program applications close during Term 2 and testing will follow. Golf Academy Application form and Expression of Interest form should be forwarded with all supporting documentation to the Enrolments Officer. Exceptional circumstances may allow for late applications and midyear enrolment opportunities.
For enrolment information and application closing dates please visit the Enrolments page or contact the College on 9365 2000.
