This is a list of resources in no particular order. Parents are strongly encouraged to view websites and make contact with individual agencies to discuss concerns, and assess service provided for appropriateness to their situation.


Building a Balance for Families with Young People from 10 to 17 yrs.

Building a Balance (BAB) is a short term intervention service of 10 counselling sessions, offered to families with young people aged 12-17 who are dealing with problematic and/or disruptive behaviour of one or more members. The service works with families to help them find workable solutions to their problems and improve communication.

The objective of BAB is to teach families the necessary skills to enable them to resolve conflict on their own and improve communication.

In order for families to be eligible for the FREE service, the child must be between 12-17 years old and live in specific south-east metropolitan suburbs. The service is also available to families who reside outside of these suburbs, however a fee for service applies.

Reconnect is…an outreach support service providing assistance to young people (12 – 18) who are having difficulties staying at home, or who have recently become homeless because of family issues. We work with young people, their parents /guardians and families.

Reconnect is a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL service.

Reconnect can help young people to…

  • Talk about hassles at home
  • Work things out with their family and friends
  • Link into training or employment options
  • Get income support if eligible
  • and find somewhere safe to stay (if needed)

Reconnect can help parents, guardians and families to…

  • Work things out with the young person
  • Find out the best way to talk things through
  • Learn to live together when things are hard
  • or learn to live apart but stay connected
  • We provide support through individual and /or family counselling, mediation, information, education, advocacy and referral.

Using the Freecall number 1800 800 046 it is possible for young people and parents or guardians to refer themselves to Reconnect. Individuals or agencies can also make a referral by calling the 1800 number. When a referral is made, clients are allocated a Case Worker who will usually make contact within the first two working days after contact. Our qualified and experienced Case Workers will assist young people/families for up to three months providing support through individual and/or family counselling, mediation, information, education, advocacy and referral. Service flexibility allows us to meet individual needs.

The Parent Teen Link Counselling Service provides counselling services to Perth and Joondalup families where significant conflict between parent/s and a teenager occurs. They work on the premise that all parents and teenagers have the potential ability to resolve their differences, but may need some help and support in learning new ways of dealing with their problems.

CLAN WA provides a range of workshops for parents encouraging healthy relationships, effective parenting, and community participation.  Workshops are open to everyone and the topics are constantly changing to appeal to the wider community. We provide a range of topics around child development, communication, conflict resolution, parenting strategies, consequences of behaviour and boundaries.  We provide a range of FREE Mental Health & Wellbeing workshops and training sessions through our indigo project.

Courses usually run for 2.5 hours a week for 1-4 sessions. The cost can vary from $10—$30 depending on the duration of the course.  Indigo workshops are provided Free of charge.

Youth Focus is a Western Australian community based organisation with expertise in providing practical and effective support for young people 12 to 18yrs of age and their families, who are showing early signs associated with suicide and deliberate self harm. Services include: counselling, family therapy, peer support weekends, mentoring, and life skills and educational training. Free or Low cost service. Can self refer to Youth Focus. Located in Burswood. May be able to do outreach work (eg come out to school) to offer appointments.

Headspace supports young people aged 12 – 25 going through a tough time. Support in mental health, general health, sexual health, family and relationships issues, housing and accommodation, alcohol and drug issues. FREE or LOW COST

YouthReach South and YouthLink provide free and confidential counselling and support services to at-risk and marginalised young people who are 13-24 years, have a serious mental health disorder and/or complex psychosocial issues, are unwilling or unable to access other mental health or counselling services due to barriers such as transience or homelessness, have limited support and are in isolation, have significant difficulty in engaging with services, and agree to a referral.

Youthlink/Youth Reach South can arrange free interpreting to help with communication, and if necessary, they will come to you.
