Year 7 Exploring Art

DSC_0999Year 7 Visual Art introduces students to the studio environment where they will explore a range of exciting and stimulating projects within design, painting, printmaking and ceramics. Students will learn how to conduct themselves within the art studio, how to use materials and techniques effectively, how to respond to the artwork of others as well as their own. This course will provide students an inspirational foundation that can be applied to other learning areas at Como Secondary College.

Year 8 Discovering Art

IMG_0359Year 8 Visual Art students will learn how to communicate ideas through drawing, design, printmaking, ceramics and painting. Students will build technical skill through both portfolio-based learning and final artwork production. This course will prepare students to discover their talents within the arts for Year 9 selections which include Visual Art and Graphic Art.

Year 9 Visual Art

DSC_0862The Year 9 Visual Arts offers students the opportunity to discover Art and the Environment and create their own artwork within the studio environment. Students will learn to communicate their creative ideas through a variety of studio areas, producing both a portfolio of development final artworks. Students will be assessed against The Arts Curriculum Framework; Arts Ideas, Arts Skills, Techniques and Processes, Arts Responses and Arts in Society. This course will prepare students for more complex decision making in Year 10 and Upper School while supporting students in a creative environment.

Year 9 Graphic Art Extension

DSC_1289Year 9 Graphic Arts students combine photography and the art of graphic design. The extension course offers extended time for students who are interested in this area of expertise. Students will learn foundations of drawing through to a range of manual and digital media. Students will learn how to communicate artistically in a range of fields through both portfolio-based learning and final artwork production. This course will prepare students to make creative decisions and to articulate their thoughts, ideas and opinions within The Arts in Year 10 and into Upper School.

Year 9 Performing Arts Extension

This course is a combination of Performing Arts where students will gain skills in both Dance and Drama studies.

Students will have the opportunity to explore contemporary, hip hop and jazz genres.  Time will be allocated for students to develop their own dramatic performance.

Year 9 Dance General

The General Dance course caters for a greater diversity of dance styles and greater degree of difficulty than previous dance courses.

Students will have the opportunity to explore contemporary, hip hop and jazz genres.  Time will be allocated for students to develop their own choreography with a view to performing the finished works.  This course prepares students for Dance studies in Year 10.  Students will experiment with their own choreography and will have the opportunity to learn about dance design.

Year 9 Drama General

This course explores different styles of theatre and challenges students to develop their own dramtic performance. Areas studied include:

  • Individual and group scripted performances
  • Introduction to Greek Theatre (history and performance involving mask work)
  • Forms and styles of theatre such as Greek Theatre and Shakespearian Theatre
  • Performance and direction
  • Stage craft – lighting and design

Year 10 Visual Art

DSC_1037Year 10 Visual Arts explores Art and the Individual through a variety of studio areas for two periods per week. Students will produce a body of work through both portfolio-based learning and final artwork production for each studio area. Students will be assessed against The Arts Curriculum Framework; Arts Ideas, Arts Skills, Techniques and Processes, Arts Responses and Arts in Society. This course will prepare students for Upper School Visual Art by teaching skilled use of mediums, critical analysis of artwork and connecting student’s personal art experiences with the purpose and function of the art within society.

Year 10 Visual Art Extension

SmileYear 10 Visual Arts explores Art and the Individual through a variety of studio areas. The extension course expands on the general course by allowing students that show talent and have a real interest in creating Art. Students will produce a body of work through both portfolio-based learning and final artwork production for each studio area and extension projects. Students will be assessed against The Arts Curriculum Framework; Arts Ideas, Arts Skills, Techniques and Processes, Arts Responses and Arts in Society. This course will prepare students for Upper School Visual Art by teaching skilled use of mediums, critical analysis of artwork and connecting student’s personal art experiences with the purpose and function of the art within society.

Year 10 Graphic Art Extension

Students will develop artistic communication skills across a range of fields through both portfolio-based learning and final artwork production. Students will be assessed against The Arts Curriculum Framework assessing Arts Ideas, Arts Skills, Techniques and Processes, Arts Responses and Arts in Society. This course will prepare students for Upper School Visual Arts courses through technical skill-building, critical visual analysis and developing an understanding of the purpose and function of the creative arts within society.

Year 11 Visual Arts ATAR

Unit 2 – Identities

Visual Arts is an exploration of media, techniques and process, within an independently focused program. The focus of this unit is difference. Students consider differences arising from cultural diversity, place, gender, class and historical period in their art making and interpretation. Students also complete in-depth investigations of Australian and International Artists, Visual Analysis of art works that explore meaning and purpose, personal response and context.

Year 11 Visual Arts General

General Visual Art students explore ways to generate and develop ideas using a variety of stimulus materials and exploration of their local environment. Students base art making and interpretation on their lives and personal experiences. When exploring ideas and approaches, students investigate the work of local and international artists. They identify stylistic features of art forms from different times and places and explore ways to manipulate art elements and principles to generate, develop and produce their own art works.
