The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the world’s leading achievement award for young people, bringing together practical experiences and life skills to create committed global citizens and equipping young people for life. To date, over 140 countries offer the Award and Como Secondary College is proud to provide this opportunity to our students.
We at Como Secondary College would like as many of our students to join up and challenge themselves by registering for one of two awards we provide;
- The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (Year 9 – onwards, ages 14 to 24) or
- The Compass Award aimed at years 7 and 8.
Each award is broken up into 3 different levels, bronze, silver or gold and each award is split into Awards Sections (challenges), these are Skills, Adventurous Journey, Service and Physical Recreation or (Residential Project – Gold only.)
The benefits that come from completing the Duke of Edinburgh‘s International Award are vast. Students will gain confidence, show organisational skills and gain enormous personal growth. Employers and tertiary organisations look for young people who have gone that extra mile and the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is representative of this.
This is a student directed award and brings with it many positive challenges.
